Marko Svetina

Co-founder and CPO, BM2Solar

Marko is a serial entrepreneur with two successful exits and over two decades at the frontier of Europe's energy transition. As Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of BM2Solar, he is now channeling that experience into a new generation of AI-powered battery and solar PV hybridization solutions — where intelligent trading algorithms meet grid-scale hardware to unlock the full value of renewable energy assets. BM2Solar's software-driven approach enables hybrid energy systems to actively participate in ancillary service and electricity markets, optimizing dispatch and revenue through advanced AI-based trading logic developed in-house.Marko's path to BM2Solar is built on two landmark entrepreneurial journeys. He founded and led one of Europe's first Virtual Power Plant companies as CEO from 2010 to 2023 — growing it from a startup into a Toshiba-designated Global Demand Response Center, before a strategic repurchase in 2015 and a second successful exit with acquisition by Austrian utility EVN in 2022. That deep experience across VPP software development, energy market operations, and grid flexibility is the technical and commercial DNA behind BM2Solar.A recognized voice in European energy policy, Marko was among the founding members of the European Battery Alliance in 2018 and co-founded the Sustainable Energy Finance Association (SEFA) in Brussels in 2022. He has led industrial-scale battery storage initiatives in Ukraine and delivered a broad portfolio of EU-funded R&D projects under FP7, Horizon 2020, and FFG — including pioneering work that earned the Power Network Europe Innovation Award 2019, jointly presented by E.DSO and ENTSO-E.
